Awan submits law questions, SC to begin hearing on 2nd

The Supreme Court on Thursday fixed May 2 as the date to begin hearing by a larger bench on a presidential reference for revisiting the ZAB case after Dr Babar Awan submitted five preliminary questions of law to be clubbed with the reference already filed for revising the case.
A three-member bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani was hearing a presidential reference filed under Article 186, seeking revisiting the murder trial of ZAB.
The court requisitioned all relevant record of the case, including the FIR from the Lahore High Court. The court appointed from all the provinces 10 senior lawyers, including Ali Ahmed Kurd, Tariq Mahmood, Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, Khalid Anwar, Makhdoom Ali Khan, SM Zafar, Aitzaz Ahsan, Zahoorul Haq and Abdul Latif Afridi as amicus curiae.
The court also directed the attorney general, advocates general of all provinces and the Supreme Court Bar Association President Asma Jahangir to assist it on the matter.
