KARACHI – The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday ordered the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general (DG) to submit a statement on two missing employees of the Malir District Courts by April 28. A division bench comprising Justices Maqbool Baqar and Ghulam Sarwar Korai was hearing the disappearance case of Shafqat Brohi and Agha Yasir, who were allegedly abducted on February 22.
After Brohi and Yasir went missing, SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam took suo motu notice of their alleged abduction.
Moreover, a constitutional petition has also been filed by Shafqat Brohi’s brother Shah Muhammad Brohi. The petitioner submitted that law enforcement agencies’ personnel abducted his brother and his colleague Agha Yasir and kept them in an undisclosed location. He added that despite approaching senior officials of the authorities concerned, no serious measures have been taken thus far to determine the location of the missing men.
The petitioner’s counsel earlier appeared before the court and submitted his preliminary arguments, saying that the missing court employees were abducted by the state-run intelligence agencies. In the previous hearing, the representatives of the Pakistan Rangers Sindh DG and Sindh inspector general of police (IGP) had appeared before the court and submitted their reports, which stated that the missing persons were neither in their custody nor were they behind their disappearance.
The petitioner on Wednesday submitted that his brother was abducted by intelligence agencies’ personnel on February 22 from the Malir area on his way home.He maintained that his brother had never been involved in any crime or illegal activity, but was abducted by law enforcers without any justification. ISI DG, Pakistan Rangers Sindh DG, Sindh Home secretary and Sindh IGP among others were cited as respondents.
The plaintiff pleaded the court to order the law enforcers to locate the whereabouts of his brother. The division bench ordered the ISI DG to submit a statement on the missing persons by April 28.
