Dar walks away from 18th Amendment commission

ISLAMABAD – Senior PML-N leader and deputy chairman of 18th Amendment Implementation Commission Senator Ishaq Dar on Wednesday resigned from the commission over differences between the government and the PML-N over the devolution of the Higher Education Commission and transfer of devolved ministries’ employees to the provinces.
In a five-page resignation letter to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Senator Dar said that the government was not implementing the decisions of the commission in letter and spirit. A source in the PML-N said Dar had resigned from this post as the PML-N had strong reservations over the devolution of HEC.
“The PML-N believes that the devolution will be a serious blow to the standard of higher education in Pakistan, the source said, adding that Dar detailed the reasons for his resignation in the five-page letter.
The source said another reason for Dar’s resignation was the PML-N’s reservations over the problems of employees of the ministries being transferred to the provinces.
