MINGAWARA – Expressing satisfaction over the role of armed forces in flushing away militants and restoration of a peaceful atmosphere in Swat Valley, elders from different politico-social groups have shown sever resentment over recent remarks of President Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jehangir.”Armed forces are playing a key role in the reconstruction process of terrorism-hit Swat Valley,” remarked the elders during an emergency press conference on Wednesday.
Awami National Party District Swat President Darwesh Khan, Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) Sher Shah Khan, Swat Aman Jirga’s Captain Sher Afzal Khan, former Tehsil Matta Nazim Abdul Jabbar Khan, Idrees Khan and Feroz Khan were prominent amongst the elders. Couple of days ago Asma Jehangir, while addressing a gathering of lawyers at Swat, had criticized the armed forces for what she called its unlawful policies. She, in her address, had asked for early hearings those detained on terrorism charges before court of law.
She had also condemned the armed forces for its intervention in affairs of the civil administration. The elders and office bearers of different groups said that Asma Jehangir is unaware of ground situation in Swat therefore she must be careful. The elders demanded of Asma Jehangir to review her policies and statement as peace had only returned to Swat after the sacrifices made by armed forces and people of Swat.
