ISLAMABAD – Swedish Ambassador to Pakistan Ulrika Sundberg has said the trade volume between Pakistan and Sweden is around $200 million which is expected to double in coming years. She said Sweden wanted to import Pakistani goods not only to her country but also to other parts of Europe.
Ambassador Sundberg said her country is a strong supporter of Pakistan’s request for Generalised System of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus) status and “we are very willing to support in meeting the criteria required to meet the status.”
She also mentioned the proposals about WTO waiver for Pakistan which are aimed at making Pakistan economically strong and to meet reconstruction targets of last year’s 20 million flood victims and help them back to normal life.
“We strongly support and hope that it will go through as negotiations are going on. We also desire to a see free trade agreement with Pakistan,” she said in response to a query. It was noted that Pakistan provides great trade opportunities to Swedish companies.
She said a recent trade delegation from Sweden was surprised on seeing the opportunities and prospects for trade with Pakistan. “We identified some areas. We can transfer environmental friendly technology to Pakistan in energy and mining and textile sectors. Swedish companies are searching for new trade partners and they are much interested to invest here,” she pointed out.
