Industrialists invited to participate in BD fair

GUJRANWALA – Bangladesh High Commissioner Sohrab Hussain has invited industrialists to participate in the country fair being held on June 6 to provide the people of Bangladesh with a firsthand exposure of Pakistani products. Addressing a meeting of Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), chaired by President Sheikh Sarwat Ikram and attended by a large number of manufacturers, he said it would be an attractive opportunity for the manufacturers to explore markets of Bangladesh. He added there were a lot of opportunities of investment in Bangladesh and both the countries could explore fields of readymade garments, yarn and others to make their economies strong.
“Bangladesh has no problem in electricity and gas sectors and has already developed export processing zones to facilitate foreign investors,” he added. The high commissioner also assured the Pakistani industrialists that exhibition of Gujranwala-made products could also be arranged in Dhaka.
CALL TO REDUCE FATALITY RATE: Punjab Health Secretary Wasim Mukhtar has intended to create awareness among mothers and expecting women to reduce the fatality rate and announced round-the-clock medical facilities in at least 30 percent of rural hospitals. He said this while addressing the participants of a function held in connection with creating awareness among rural population in village Jathi Shah Rehman. Health Director Dr Nisar Ahmad Cheema, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Mahjabeen Qamar, Dr Nasrullah Cheema, Nadia Chattha and Rizwan Gondal were among other speakers.
The health secretary said the provincial government was providing Rs 40 billion annually for the health sector and it should be the responsibility of all segments of the society to join hands for reducing fatalities. He also urged the masses to stay away from untrained and unqualified quacks and self-styled female doctors. He underlined the need to adopt all necessary measurements during pregnancy along with vaccinations and added the government had made all necessary arrangements even in the remote areas of the province.
CASH, VALUABLES RETURNED TO OWNERS: City Police Officer (CPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar has returned 58 cars, 180 motorcycles and 26 motorcycle-rickshaws along with cash, gold jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 250 million to their owners after recovering from scores of robbers’ gangs busted during last two months. He distributed these goods during a ceremony held at the GCCI auditorium and attended by hundreds of the city dignitaries. The CPO lauded the performance of Baghbanpura SHO Inspector Imran Abbas Chadhar, Cantt SHO Ameer Abbas, People’s Colony SHO Sarfraz Anjum, Inspector Mahmood Ahmad Butt, Inspector Tahir Sajjad and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Imran and awarded these officers certificates and cash prizes.
COURT SEEKS REPORT ON ANTI-ENCROACHMENT DRIVE: Gujranwala District and Sessions Judge (DSJ) Kazim Raza Shamsi has directed the Gujranwala DCO to submit a report on discriminatory policy regarding the removal of encroachments in Gurunanakpura locality. The action was taken on the report of a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) in which the city district government (CDG) was accused of adopting a discriminatory policy while removing encroachments. The DSJ had earlier directed the administration to take action against the land mafia and encroachments without any discrimination, but the court was told that the city district government spared the influential people of the area while removing encroachments.
BLIND WOMAN RAPED: Police have arrested two people for raping a married blind woman in the vicinity of Cantt Police Station. Reportedly, Ali Raza and Qasim entered the house of Hafeez and raped his blind wife. The police lodged an FIR after getting a medico-legal report, arrested both the accused and started investigations.
