Fake lecturers’ appointment case – Anti-corruption court rejects bail pleas

KARACHI – An anti-corruption court on Tuesday rejected the pre-arrest bail application of former Education Department officer Zaheer Ahmed and also the post-arrest bail plea of the department’s Deputy Secretary Bashir Brohi in the case of appointment of fake lecturers. The suspects, with the assistance of some other colleagues, are alleged to have issued appointment orders of 19 lecturers including two sisters of Kalsoom Chandio, an MPA of Sindh, which after an inquiry were found to be fake.
The case against the alleged accused was registered with the Sindh anti-corruption establishment. On Tuesday, prosecutor Rashid Khan opposed the bail pleas of both the suspects, arguing that both officers had caused heavy losses to the Education Department through their forgeries and are not entitled for bail at this stage. Provincial Anti-Corruption Court Judge Rashida Asad rejected the bail plea of Ahmed, the main suspect in the case, when he approached the court after getting protective bail from the apex court.
Meanwhile, the Education Department deputy secretary – who was arrested from the court on the last hearing when he had filed a bail-before-arrest plea – had filed his post-arrest bail application from jail, which was rejected.
