The mystery of the SP’s dead maid

LAHORE – The maid of a superintendent of police (SP) died under mysterious circumstances in the Garden Town Police Station precincts on Monday. The deceased was identified as Balqees, a residence of Okara, who was living and working at the house of SP Imtiaz Sarwar located at Abu Bakar Block Garden Town. Police said that Balqees was working at the house since three years and staying at a servant quarter. Police claimed that residents, in order to awake Balqeees, knocked the door of the quarter at around 6am but no one answered on which they looked into the room from the window and found Balqees dead. The family and servants of Sarwar immediately informed police and local residents who gathered at the spot.
According to police, when they broke into the quarter of Balqees, they saw that half of her body was on a sofa and the remaining was lying on the ground.
Investigation Officer Amanat said that when he entered the room, he found Balqees dead. He claimed that Balqees committed suicide by shooting herself in the head. Amanat said that when he entered the quarter, he saw a 32 bore revolver in the right hand of Balqees. He said that police have also recovered a suicidal note from the room written by the deceased. The policemen said that according to the suicidal note, Balqees committed suicide as she was depressed.
The investigator claimed that the incident was a clear case of suicide on which they handed over the body of the deceased to its heirs after autopsy.
Garden Town Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rana Javed said that the maid had some disputes with her family on which she took the extreme step. He said that Balqees was supporting her sister, who contracted a love marriage. Javed claimed that Balqees also eloped from her house and did not want to go back. He said that SP Sarwar was going to take the maid to her house but she took the extreme step.
According to police sources, the deceased’s brother Hameed was also living in the city and working with an advocate of the Lahore High Court (LHC) as a clerk. According to police sources, Hameed had given a written statement to police that he or any of his family members did not want to take any legal action against Sarwar or his family on which police handed over the body to them. Surprisingly, not even a single policeman bothered replying to a question that from where Balqees got a 32 bore pistol. Investigation Officer Amanat said that they have not been able to solve the mystery that how the deceased got the pistol. He said that the only one who could answer this question was Balqees but she could not answer it now.
Police sources said that investigators have recovered two cellular phones, along with headphones, from the crime scene. Sources said that the phones were expensive and in a good condition, which a maid could not afford easily.
