ISLAMABAD – Recommending changes in accounting procedure, the Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production on Monday adopted the National Defence University Bill 2007. The meeting, held with Senator Lt General (Retd) Javed Ashraf Qazi in the chair, considered the bill and recommended certain changes in the accounting procedure and fee depositing mechanism to make the financial affairs of the university transparent.
According to the changes, chief accounting officer would be the chief executive of the university and the audit would be conducted by an independent chartered accountant who would submit annual financial report to the Public Accounts Committee. The bill has been sent back to the Upper House for approval along with the suggestions.
The university, which had come into being in 2007 under an ordinance, was established in Islamabad to impart higher education in the fields of national defence and security to meet the contemporary and future challenges. The university has three affiliated colleges, Command and Staff College Quetta, Pakistan Air War College Karachi and Pakistan Naval War College Lahore.
