SL baseball players pay homage to attack victims

LAHORE – The Sri Lankan baseball team on Monday paid a visit to the Liberty Roundabout, the place where the Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked in May 200p, to pay homage to those killed and injured by terrorist during the attack.
The team members laid a floral wreath near the plaque at the Liberty Roundabout, remembering the martyrs of the day. This is the first Sri Lankan team to have visited Pakistan since the attack took place.
The Sri Lankan cricket team is due later this year as per ICC’s Future Tours Programme, but the SL Board wants the series to be played in Sri Lanka or at a neutral venue. “We have very friendly relations with Pakistan and our visit to play in the SAARC Baseball Championship is the proof of the strengthening ties,” said an official of the team. He further stated that the team salutes the courage and bravery of the departed heroes and would never forget the heroics of the bus driver who saved their cricket team.
Pakistan Baseball Federation officials, secretary Khawar Shah, security officials and several other dignitaries were also present during the memorial visit. The attacks meant the suspension of all international cricket in Pakistan and the country was stripped of its share of the 2011 World Cup matches. Pakistan team were also forced to play their home series at neutral venues, mainly in the United Arab Emirates.
