LAHORE – Dozens of people held a protest outside the Lahore Press Club on Monday against the Ferozwala Police for allegedly protecting the accused who killed an 18-year-old youth on late Sunday. The angry protesters placed the dead body of victim Muhammad Zubair, son of Nasir Mehmood, in front of the Lahore Press Club and chanted slogans against the role of the Ferozwala Police towards the accused. The protesters also blocked the road and burnt tyres. The protestors, including women and children, demanded police high-ups take serious action against the accused and policemen who were involved in protecting the killers.
Talking to journalists, Nasir Mehmood, the victim’s father, alleged that his son had been killed by accused Fazal Dogra and his brother Kaiser Dogra and police, instead of taking action against them, was trying to protect the killers. He said that one of his sons Shoaib, 22, was also shot dead by the same accused few months ago and police did nothing to arrest him so far.
The SHO concerned said that both the youth, who had been killed by the accused, were innocent.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mustansar Ali Bajwa of the Qila Gujjar Singh Police assured the angry protesters that the superintendent of police (SP) concerned had called them for justice. Protesters dispersed after the assurance of the DSP. Separately, sisters of a proclaimed offender Zubair alias Zubairi, who was killed in a police encounter on April 14 in Gujranwala, have alleged that their brother was killed by police in a staged encounter and demanded justice from higher authorities.
Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, complainant Fakhra Shaheen, along with her two sisters, alleged that the Gakhar Police, instead of presenting their brother in court, killed him in a fake police encounter. They appealed to the Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice to take suo moto action against Station House Officer (SHO) Tahir Mahmood Butt, Sub-Inspector Tahir Sajjad and other policemen who had killed their brother in a fake police encounter.
