KARACHI – The Pakistan Boxing Federation will send pugilists for training to England and other countries ahead of the 2012 London Olympics, officials announced Tuesday.
PBF President Doda Khan Bhutto said that efforts were afoot for specialised training for the Pakistan boxers before major international championships. He was addressing a function, hosted in his honour by the Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS), on Tuesday at the Karachi Press Club. Secretary PBF Akram Khan and chairman PBF referee/judges commission Ali Akber Shah, President SJAS Rashid Ali Siddiqui, Secretary General Ubaid-ur-Rehman Awan and other members of SJAS were also present on the occasion.
He said that four pugilists would be sent to England in the first leg of the training. “We would also send our boxers to Russia, India, South Korea and Kazakhstan in build-up for the World Championship which is also the qualifying round of London Olympics,” he stated. He said that second edition of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Boxing Tournament would be staged from July 19 to 29 in Islamabad. Besides, a joint camp would be held from June 20 to July 20 in Islamabad where more than 10 countries are expected to send their boxers.
Bhutto said that they had carried our audit of accounts of first Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Tournament from the Auditor General of Pakistan. “We are the only federation that had audited its accounts from the AGP,” he added. On the occasion, SJAS Office-bearers presented souvenirs of association to Doda Khan Bhutto and Akram Khan.
