KARACHI – The Pakistan Customs Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC), Karachi Airport Unit seized 1.5kg heroin concealed in children’s jackets inside a postal parcel. The Customs DEC staff, while clearing the outgoing international parcels at the Pakistan Post’s Express Mail Service at Shahrah-e-Faisal, intercepted a parcel booked from Gulshan-e-Iqbal Post Office for an address in Birmingham, UK.
A thorough search of the parcel led to the recovery of 500 grams of fine quality heroin in small packets sewn under the inner linings of the two children’s jackets. In the recent past, drug smugglers have started using a number of children’s’ garments to conceal drugs. After the recovery and seizure of the contraband narcotics, a prosecution case under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 was registered.
