ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court (SC) will resume the hearing today (Monday) of a presidential reference to reopen the case of former premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani will resume the hearing at 11.30am today.
At the last hearing, the court had pointed out flaws in the reference and asked the government to frame specific questions of law about the controversial death sentence given to the late Bhutto that could be answered by the court.
Critics had made a similar objection when the reference was being filed, saying that only specific questions of law could be examined by the court under Article 186, the constitutional clause under which the reference was filed.
