LAHORE – Government College University (GCU) Horticulture Society held a fresh flower exhibition at the varsity’s Abdus Salam Hall on Monday. The exhibition’s theme was ‘Flowers signify everything that is positive in this world: life, beauty, love and happiness’ Students from Kinnaird College, Government Gulberg College for Women, Islamia College and Fatima Jinnah College put flowers on display decorated in stylish handmade baskets, pots and pans.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikramul Haq opened the exhibition and said that colors and fragrance had left him dazzled. “Flowers are the part and parcel of our life as they add colors, fragrance and beauty to our gardens, homes and social gatherings,” he said. He said that Pakistan had a potential to earn foreign exchange through the export of indigenous flowers. He called on the GCU botanists to explore new varieties of roses. He also highlighted the use of flowers in medicines.
GCU Botany Department Chairperson Dr Zaheeruddin also appreciated the exhibition. Visitors and students appreciated the Horticulture Society for the organizing the exhibition.
