‘17,000 students given scholarships for higher education’

GUJRANWALA – Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has enhanced endowment fund from Rs 2 billion to Rs 6 billion and 17,000 male and female students have been awarded scholarships for higher education. He revealed this while addressing the convocation of National Science College Gujranwala.
College Chief Executive Qamarul Islam Raja, Principal Hafiz M Arshad, Professor Abdul Ghani, Professor Abdul Majeed Qazi, Professor Maqbool Ahmad Malik, Professor Ata-ur-Rehman, Professor Asma Abdul Sattar, Director Colleges Rana Mushtaq and others also expressed their views at the ceremony.
The education minister said 450 laboratories had been established in the province to enable the younger generation to cope with the challenges of the coming days while four-year graduation programmes had been started to match international standards of education. “Literacy is the basic right of every child and the utmost struggle of the provincial government is to achieve 100 percent literacy rate,” he said.
The minister distributed degrees among graduates and announced Rs 500,000 for position holders and the faculty members as well.
