NEW DELHI – India’s former deputy prime minister and senior Opposition BJP leader L.K. Advani has hit out at the Congress-led UPA government, saying its sincerity in tackling corruption would be visible only through actions taken by it in scams that have rocked the country.
“Even before the Parliament meets for its Monsoon Session and takes up the Lokpal Bill being considered by the Committee secured by Anna Hazare, the real test of Government’s sincerity about tackling corruption will be what action it takes about the three scams,” Advani wrote on his blog.
The three scams are the telecom scam, Commonwealth Games scam and the Mumbai Defence Land (Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society) scam, he wrote, saying the country was “really angry” over corruption.
The Indian government recently succumbed to the demands by anti- corruption crusador, who went on a fast unto death, and set up a committee to draft an effective Lokpal Bill under which the Lokpal will have the power to deal with corruption in public offices.
