PPP points out violations of rules in house count

KARACHI – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh’s Head of the Census Monitoring Committee Taj Haider has expressed concern over the widespread reports of irregularities in the house count phase of the census.
“Details including the name of the head of the family, his identity card number, profession and number of children in the household that is required to be entered on Form 1 with ballpoint pens are being written on plain sheets with pencils. There are also numerous complaints that these details are being written by people other than the officially designated enumerators,” he said.
Haider pointed out that the law in this regard is very clear. “No person other than the officially designated enumerator can fill the Form 1 of the census. Similarly, no stationary other than the officially supplied Form 1 can be used and entries are to be made only by a ballpoint pen and not a pencil that can easily be rubbed out and changed,” he said.
He regretted that the process has not been centralised in the offices of the DDOs yet and the interference of officials, who have no concern with the census work, is continuing unabated.
