KARACHI – Provincial Senior Education and Literacy Minister Pir Mazharul Haq has asked the teachers’ community in general, and the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) office-bearers in particular, to compare what the previous regime did for them and what they have achieved during the tenure of the present government.
According to a statement, the minister, while commenting on the SPLA declaration that it would protest against the Education Department, said,” The present government has made remarkable achievements in sorting out and redressing the long-standing issues of the teachers’ community in general and college lecturers and professors in particular but instead of appreciating and applauding these services, the SPLA office-bears have adopted a totally thankless attitude towards the government and have indulged into a futile attempt to convert the educational institutions into battlefields to achieve their own ulterior designs.”
The education minister pointed out that the SPLA was allowed to act as a social welfare concern of the teaching community at higher education institutions and it was the present government that allowed it to work for the betterment of teachers.
“The government withdrew an appeal against the SPLA activities pending in the Supreme Court of Pakistan the association’s simple assurance that it will not indulge in politics or trade union activities,” he added.
