KARACHI – The ruling PPP and MQM’s joint ministerial committee on law and order on Friday agreed to a five-point proposal to curb target killings and other criminal and terrorist activities in Karachi.
“A five-point formula has been suggested and sent to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah for implementation,” PPP Sindh Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani said. He, however, did not disclose he details of the suggestions.
Besides Durrani, PPP’s Minister for Food Nadir Magsi, MQM’s Information Technology Minister Raza Haroon and Health Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed are members of the committee. Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro attended the meeting on invitation.
Before attending the meeting, Durani had also met MQM leaders Dr Farooq Sattar and Syed Sardar Ahmed at the Sindh Governor’s House. Durani said the committee members resolved that action should be continued against criminals irrespective of their party affiliation.
He said both parties also discussed the political situation and vowed to continue the reconciliatory policy. MQM leader Raza Haroon told Pakistan Today that the committee members expressed concern over killing of MQM workers in Karachi, and felt the need of immediate action to stop the killings.
