ISLAMABAD – In a bid to calm down protesting members of parliament (MPs) from the Federal Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) on successive drone attacks in Waziristan, Prime Minister (PM) Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday strongly condemned the drone attacks and termed the attacks a violation of the sovereignty of Pakistan
The PM said such activities were counter-productive to the law enforcement operations against terrorists, miscreants and militants.
Talking to the parliamentary leader of FATA MPs, Haji Muneer Ahmad Orakzai, Gilani said the issue was being raised at all forums including North Atlantic Treaty Organisationto convey Pakistan’s concerns. He said the government was taking concrete steps for FATA’s development by addressing local population’s deprivations and encouraging them to participate in mainstream politics.
Gilani said the government was according priority to provision of education and health facilities in all agencies. He asked tribal elders and the local administration to participate in implementing these policies. Orakzai thanked the PM for his personal interest in the development of FATA. He apprised Gilani of the progress on various gas supply schemes initiated by the federal government in all agencies.
