Drug addiction

Pakistan is today notorious for many things. One of them is the drug addiction and production in the past few years. The issue of drug addiction is often over-shadowed by many of the countrys other human development problem such as poverty, illiteracy and lack of basic health care.

While Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Maldives all suffer from this, Pakistan is the main victim of the drug trade in South Asia. It has the largest heroin consumer market in the region. It was not always this way; Pakistan became a major exporter of heroin in the 1980s, following the influx of Afghan refugees escaping the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Drug production of Pakistan domestic market is estimated at around $1.5 billion.

Teenage girls are likely to abuse substances in order to lose weight, relieve stress or improve their mood, reduce sexual inhibition, medicate depression and increase confidence.

Children get involved either due to pressure from friends, alienation with parents, sexual or verbal abuse, bad performance in study and many others. It is important for all of us to take some strict steps against this bad habit.
