ISLAMABAD – A special central court on Thursday rejected bail plea of former federal minister for religious affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi who is in the custody of the FIA for his alleged involvement in the Haj corruption case. The former minister was brought to the court of special central judge M Farooq amid tight security as dozens of his supporters assembled outside the courtroom.
After hearing the arguments of the defence and the prosecution, the court rejected Kazmi’s bail plea and adjourned proceedings until April 27. Submitting Kazmi’s bail plea in the court, his lawyer, Sardar Nasir argued that his client had been wrongfully implicated in the Haj scam as the FIA had so far been unable to prove anything against his client.
However, FIA prosecutor Khaild Naeem opposed the bail plea arguing that the former minister was not cooperating in disclosing the whereabouts of Ahmad Faiz, who was appointed supervisor at Jeddah Haj Directorate by Kazmi.
