City will get a liver transplant centre: CM

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced that a state-of-the-art liver transplant facility and an institute of urology will be established on the land currently occupied by Zeenat Laboratories on Lawrence Road. Presiding over a meeting on Thursday, the chief minister said land worth billions of rupees had been retrieved in the campaign against encroachments.
He said that people faced great problems in the treatment of liver diseases and they also have to go abroad for liver transplant, which was beyond the reach of the common man. He said that a modern liver transplant and urology centre in Lahore would serve people from all over Pakistan. He said the Punjab government was executing a comprehensive programme for provision of modern treatment to the ailing humanity. “In addition to free medicines and the dialysis facility, air-conditioners and generators have also been provided in hospitals for the first time in the country’s history,” he said.
“Mobile health units have been set up for extending medical facilities to the people of far-flung areas.” He directed the Lahore Division commissioner to prepare the feasibility for a liver and kidney centre on Lawrence Road as early as possible.
