ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said the new service structure package for the doctors was aimed at providing them better facilities so that they can serve the masses. The prime minister made a policy statement on floor of the national assembly, saying that the package would provide them job security and ensure regular progress in their career.
He said a committee has been constituted to improve the service structure and it would submit its report in next 15 days.
The PM informed the National Assembly that doctors on contract have been regularised and a new service structure of medical practitioners and para-medical staff has been approved that meets their long standing demands.
Later, while talking to reporters outside the Parliament House after meeting a group of doctors who specially had come to thank the PM, Gilani said the government has met a very old demand of the doctors and wanted that the doctors stay within the country and refrain from opting jobs abroad. He said unlike the past when the doctors rarely got promotions, the new package has focused on career progression and better emoluments.
The PM said a huge non-practicing allowance would also be provided to the doctors. Responding to a question that some of the doctors have not accepted the package, the prime minister said though all have agreed to it, however, if they had some suggestions the same too could be considered.
