ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued notices to the Geo News on airing false news reports whereby it was claimed that the PEMRA had blocked the transmission of the Geo Super. The action has been taken over continuous violations of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002 and licence terms and conditions. This news item is an effort by the Geo News to deceive and misguide general public of the facts as well as to malign the authority.
Another show-cause notice is served on the Geo Super, for suspending satellite transmission since April 5 in contravention to the Section 28 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 and clause 24.1(c) of the licence terms and conditions which prohibits any broadcast media or distribution service operator from ceasing or suspending broadcasting. It is clarified that the Geo Super suspended its transmission at its own since April 5, 2011 and launched a baseless media campaign against the regulator alleging for banning transmission which is factually incorrect.
