GUJRANWALA – An assistant sub inspector (ASI) and three constables of Sadar Kamoke Police Station were sent behind bars for taking Rs 150,000 bribes. Reportedly, ASI Imran Sarwar and three constables stopped a truck of robbed home appliances and after striking a deal of Rs 150,000, the cops let the robbers escape with the booty. The robbers managed to pay Rs 125,000 on the spot while the remaining Rs 25,000 were decided to be paid next morning. The deal was tipped off to the city police officer (CPO) who arrested Imran Sarwar and the constables while receiving the remaining amount and ordered their suspension and arrest.
Police kill two wanted criminals: Gakhar police killed two most wanted criminals involved in bhatta mafia after trapping them by offering them money from the owner of a local hospital. Reportedly, Zubair alias Zubairi Natt and Riaz Bhinder were demanding protection money from Dr Muhammad Ashraf of Ashraf Hospital Gakhar. On his refusal, they opened indiscriminate firing on the building last month. This incident was followed by a grenade attack on the same building. On the request of the hospital’s owner, a police team in plain clothes was deployed there. The police trapped the ringleader through Dr Muhammad Ashraf to strike a deal after midnight and invited them to come to the hospital. As the outlaws reached the hospital, the police surrounded them and ordered them to surrender, but they retaliated with a heavy gunfire. After a few minutes of crossfire, both the criminals were gunned down and their bodies sent to a local hospital. City Police Officer (CPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar briefed journalists about the history of this gang and said that a chapter of heinous crimes finally had come to an end.
SHEIKHUPURA ROAD TO BE RECONSTRUCTED: Sheikhupura Road will be reconstructed with an estimated cost of Rs 192 million within next six months to facilitate the masses of southern side of the city as well as the commuters travelling towards Sheikhupura and Faisalabad. Gujranwala Division Commissioner Saeed Wahla said this while talking to the residents of the locality during his visit to the site. He added that work order had already been issued to a contractor and Rs 136 million sanctioned to ensure speedy completion of the project. Development Director Muhammad Anwar Aziz, Provincial Highways XEN Ajmal Kaleem Ullah and other officers also accompanied him. The commissioner directed the XEN to start the work with double shift and enhance manpower to complete the project within the given timeframe. The road was constructed six years ago during the regime of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q). But owing to the corruption and substandard material, it dilapidated within six months. As a result, millions of commuters have to face problems while travelling on the road. The largest cardiac hospital also lies at this road and patients have to face problems while reaching the hospital too.
