KARACHI – A local court sent an alleged drug peddler named Khan Muhammad alias Kano to judicial custody on Tuesday. The suspect was arrested by the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department (E&TD) police on April 11 from the Clifton police limits and produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate (South) Ishaq H Singhar on Tuesday. According to the prosecution, E&TD police team led by ETO Yaqoob Jakrani conducted a raid at a narcotics den located near the Gizri bus stop and arrested the alleged accused while recovering 80gm hashish from his possession.
However, Kano’s accomplice named Muhammad Pervez escaped from the scene under the cover of fire. A case (FIR No 8/2011) was lodged against the suspect under Section 9-B of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997. The police claimed that the den was being run by notorious drug supplier Akhtari Begum alias Addi, who is allegedly running another den in Hub, Balochistan. Interestingly, sources told this scribe that the narcotics den was adjacent to the residence of E&TD inspector Ayaz Lashari and next to a central district office of the PPP, where local PPP leaders frequently visit, but had never complained.
