Islamabad – Interior Minister Rehman Malik ruled out a “government of technocrats” on Monday, saying that such rumours were against the people’s aspirations. Malik told reporters outside Parliament House that rumours of a government of technocrats were in the circle since the Pakistan People’s Party had come into power, adding that there was no difference between martial law and such a government.
“The government will complete its tenure and the rumour-spreading elements will be frustrated,” said Malik. He said those found involved in targeted killings in Karachi had hailed from one political party or another in the past, and after their arrests targeted killings in Karachi had decreased. Malik said the federal government would continue to coordinate with the provincial government in this regard and action would be taken against those who went into hiding.
He said if any political party would have apprehensions about the national census, the government would try to remove them. “The Interior Ministry has come to know of people getting mobile SIMs on bogus identity cards. The government has advised all mobile phone operators to cancel such SIMs, otherwise action will be taken against them,” said Malik.
