ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has formally approved the new service structure of medical practitioners and para-medical staff, a spokesman of Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.
The spokesman said that the doctors and para-medical staff will now work in hospitals according to the new service structure and a notification in this regard will be issued soon.
He said that according to the new service structure, new Grades 1-8 have been allocated to para-medical staff while new Grades 8-13 have been designated for medical practitioners instead of previous grades.
He said now the medical practitioners will work in the hospital at initial Grade-9, which will be equivalent to BPS-17. Moreover, the doctors will now automatically be promoted to the next grade upto new Grade-13, unlike the past practice of spending years in one grade like in BPS-18.
He said that the government has also decided to regularise the services of contractual medical practitioners.
He also said that a three-member committee headed by Federal Secretary Health and comprising representatives of Ministry of Finance and Establishment Division has been constituted to look into the financial implications.
The committee would submit its report within 15 days.

  1. Still lot to come in this regard, important to consider here is the upgradation of Doctors should be according to their length of service, seniority and merit No. of commission., If some one has only one promotion in last 20 years, inspite of passing commision exams with upper merit and he will be adjusted into existing grade from BPS-18 to Geade -10 will be of no use for him. Policy must contain time frame so that senority of Doctors should not overlap as earlier, Due to very low difference in increment amount ,there seems no pay difference in BPS-17 to BPS-18,
Kindly consider this aspect too, that increment amount must be atleast equal to average of annual inflation.
