KARACHI – Car sales, last month, improved by an annual 24 percent and reached 15,634 units compared to 12,618 units in the same period last year, according to recent data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA). A month-wise analysis depicted a sales boost of 17 percent spurred by delivery of CNG vehicles, booked in January and February FY11, in the outgoing month.
“Thus, with these numbers, 9MFY11 marked an annual 14 percent improvement,” said Furqan Punjani, a researcher at Topline Brokerage House. The analyst said that Pak Suzuki has continued to show better sales in the 9MFY11, as evident from the sales growth of 18 percent to 61,693 units compared to 52,128 units in the same period last year. PSMC has outperformed the industry volumetric sales number due to an improvement in urban economy.
Indus Motor followed a similar pattern, as it’s sales increased by seven percent to 37,259 units compared to 34,857 units in the same period last year, he said.
“Delivery of past booked vehicles in the outgoing month allowed improvement in the volumetric sales for PSMC by a monthly 38 percent to 9,626 units compared to 6,954 units in February, 2011.”While, for INDU, monthly sales declined by nine percent to 4,268 units compared to 4,698 units in February, 2011 triggered by expectation of Corolla’s new model launch in April,” he said.
