AG served notice on HEC dissolution

ISLAMABAD – A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench issued notices on Monday to the attorney general and other respondents to appear in court today (Tuesday) during a hearing of a petition against the dissolution of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The bench comprised Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani. The petition, which made the federal government (through the Law and Education Ministry), the Inter-Provincial Coordination Division and the HEC respondents, was filed by lawyer Anwar Mansoor Khan on behalf of Rippah International University Rector Professor GA Miana and University of Lahore Islamabad Campus Director General Brigadier Muhammad Ajaeb.
A separate application was also filed by former HEC chairman Professor Attaur Rehman requesting the court to take suo motu notice of the matter to “save” the higher education sector in the country.
