DASKA – Federal Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has urged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and philanthropists to come forward and establish educational institutions in the neglected areas of the country.
Addressing the annual prize-distribution of a school in village Sherpur, the minister revealed that a “sasta bazaar” would soon be started in the district where women would run their own businesses exclusively. Dr Firdous said that women could play a vital role in the development process to put the country on the road to prosperity.
The federal minister stressed collective efforts for the promotion of education on non-commercial basis. After the 18 Amendment, the education sector would be run by the provincial governments and they were responsible for providing quality education to the people. She urged the parents to focus on educating their daughters. Dr Firdous said the government would follow the court directives in Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case. “
We are determined to steer the people out of crisis despite all odds and we will not take rest until we provide relief to the people, she said and added the government intended to empower the poor segments of the society. Meanwhile, addressing a gathering after inaugurating a gas project at Shadiwal, the minister said the MQM should be welcomed for launching its political campaign in the Punjab. She said there was a great difference between the politics of Sindh and Punjab.
She said the PPP had worked immensely for the welfare of the masses and promoted the politics of reconciliation in the country. She contended that increase in petroleum prices in the world was due to the unrest in the Middle East and other countries.
FIRDOUS CONDOLES WITH KHawaja ASIF: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan visited the residence of PML-N MNA Khawaja Muhammad Asif to offer condolences over the sad demise of his mother. She prayed for the eternal rest of the departed soul. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah and PML-Q leaders, Khush Akhtar Subhani and Armughan Subhani, were also present.
