STATE CORNER – Shane Watson set the record of most sixes in an innings in limited overs international cricket by hitting 15 sixes during his unbeaten 183-run knock against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on Tuesday. West Indian Xavier Marshall, who smashed 12 sixes during his unbeaten 157-run knock against Canada at King City on August 22, 2008, held the previous record.
Watson’s unbeaten 185 is the highest ever individual score for Australia and eight highest overall in limited overs international cricket. Matthew Hayden who scored an unbeaten 181 against New Zealand at Hamilton on February 20, 2007.
It was highest ever individual score against Bangladesh in Bangladesh and second highest after Zimbabwe’s Charles Coventry’s unbeaten 194 at Bulawayo on August 16, 2009. India’s Virender Sehwag’s 175 at Dhaka on February 19, 2011 was the previous highest against Bangladesh in Bangladesh. The Australian opening batsman also set the new record of fastest 150 runs in one-dayers by making 150 off 83 balls.
Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya who completed 150 runs off 95 balls during his 152-run knock against England at Leeds on July 1, 2006, held the previous record. Watson’s previous highest in ODIs was 161 against England at Melbourne on January 16, 2011.
