KARACHI – The Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI), which was supposed to go on a wheel-jam strike from today (Monday), has postponed its call for another three day – till the 13th – in the hope that the government will soon accede to its demands and allow a two-rupee increase in fares.
KTI President Irshad Bukhari, in a statement issued on Sunday, said that the Sindh government had assured him of soon issuing a notification to publicize the two-rupee hike in transport fares. He claimed that Sindh Transport Minister Akhtar Jadoon and Rehabilitation Minister Muzaffar Shujrah had taken the KTI in confidence over the matter, but the wheel-jam strike for an indefinite period is on the cards if transporters’ demands were not met within a given time period.
According to sources, however, the Sindh government has already sent a summary to the provincial law department, seeking suggestions over any potential hike in transport fares.
