ISLAMABAD – The lawyer requests the court to replace Latif Khosa with Khalid Ranjha in NRO review petition.
Refusing the request of the lawyer, Kamal Azfar, the Supreme Court on Monday directed him to represent the government in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) review petition.
According to a private TV, a 17-member Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard the NRO review petition. Azfar sought court’s permission to replace Latif Khosa with Khalid Ranjha as Khosa had been appointed the Punjab governor. The CJP told Azfar that review petition would be dismissed, if he does not plead.
The CJP said that the court accepted Latif Khosa as Azafar’s replacement because he was made adviser to the prime minister on disaster management. Hence, he is no longer an advisor and Khosa have become the governor, Azfar has to plead the case, the CJP said.
The government filed a review petition for the NRO verdict of the Supreme Court. The court had invalidated the NRO in a verdict on December 16, 2009 and ordered that the cases were closed under the NRO should be reopened.
The apex court had directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to write a letter to the Swiss government for reopening the cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
