LAHORE – After three rounds of competitive golf at the Royal Palm Golf Course, the team that worked hard but ended in agony was the Royal Palm ‘A’ who lost out to the defending champions Islamabad ‘A’ by the barest possible margin here on Sunday.
Islamabad ended the three rounds with an aggregate team score of 696 while the Royal Palm Team ended at 697. For Islamabad the performers were Taimur Hassan, Tariq Mehmood, Talha Sajjad and Fida Hussain. The winners captain Taimur Hassan said that he would cherish this close victory as it was acheived through close team effort.
The star of the Individual gross section also turned out to be Taimur Hassan who somehow kept his nearest challenger Muhammed Rehman of Royal Palm at bay using his experience to good effect. Rehman gave a good account of his ability on the final day with an impressive round of gross 73 and never seemed cowed down by Taimur’s presence, yet had to be content with the runners up position.
Taimur captured the gross first with a three-day aggregate of 222 followed by M. Rehaman at 223, Saleem Raza at 227, Nadeem Abbas at 227, Wazir Ali 228 and Tariq Mehmood and Raheel Ikram 229. The winners amongst ladies were Maimoona Azam (runner-up net), Tehmina Rashid (winner net), Ami Quin (runner up gross) and Ghazala Yasmin (winner gross).
Winners in Invitational were Tahir Mehmood and Nasrullah Sheikh. At the conclusion of the championship the prizes were awarded to the winners by Jahanzaib Qayum of Pepsi and Ramzan Sheikh of Royal Palm.
