KARACHI – The Awami National Party (ANP)-Sindh has issued a one-month ultimatum to the PPP-led Sindh government to solve the outstanding issues of party and its electorate. Following a meeting of the party’s provincial executive committee, ANP-Sindh President Shahi Syed told reporters during a media briefing that If “our demands are not met during this one month, ANP-Sindh can take any decision to safeguard the interests of our party.”
Syed said a verdict on continuing with the coalition government in Sindh would be announced at a public meeting. ANP’s demands include initiating work on Bacha Khan flyover link road and construction of side roads, setting up government hospitals in Pashtun-dominated areas and redressing the “anti-Pashtun” sentiments of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK).
The ANP also demanded a census be carried out in the “no-go areas” of Karachi with the support of army and demanded the Sindh government pay compensation to all those who perished in targeted violence, or had their property and vehicles torched or damaged in riots. During the current month, protest rallies will be staged outside the Karachi Press Club every Friday as a reminder to the Sindh government.
The ANP-Sindh will also start a membership campaign from the 15th, and continue it until August 15.
