PIA’s restructuring plan being finalized: Defense Minister

ISLAMABAD – Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar has said that a restructuring plan for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is being finalized and that the plan is aimed at improving PIA’s efficiency and making the organization a profit-earning entity.
“We are planning restructuring of the whole organization in consultation with professionals. We will definitely come out with the programme within the next 15 to 20 days,” he revealed during the recent proceedings of the Senate.
The minister said that the things were moving in the right direction and assured the House that all parliamentarians would appreciate the new restructuring plan.
“2077 appointments had been made in PIA during the last three years on regular and contract basis, while the number of daily wagers is 149. Whereas around 989 appointments have been made in Airport Security Force,” he added.
The minister said that the postings in departments of PIA were done as per the approved and sanctioned Human Resource Budget, which was maintained individually for each department and according to the operational requirement.
