MQM’s rally a right step for national politics: Badr

LAHORE – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary General Senator Jahangir Badr on Saturday said that PPP Co-chairman President Asif Ali Zardari would make a final decision on whether or not the PPP would attend the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s meeting today (Sunday).
On Saturday, an MQM team led by Farooq Sattar met Jehangir Badr at his residence and invited the PPP to attend MQM’s Istehkam-e-Pakistan rally today. Badr welcomed the call but made it clear that a final decision to participate was the discretion of President Zardari.
Talking to reporters later, Badr said the MQM has taken a right step for the welfare of the poor masses. “MQM’s decision to enter the national politics will help resolve issues,” he said. Badr congratulated the MQM on its arrival in Punjab, saying it had become a national-level party after launching itself in other provinces.
He hoped that MQM’s presence in Punjab would have deep and positive impact on politics. Dr Farooq Sattar said he had invited PPP leaders to the meeting, adding that the people of Punjab had welcomed the party warmly.
He hoped that the people of Punjab would not disappoint the MQM, saying MQM chief Altaf Hussain would also never disappoint the people of Punjab.
