LONDON – Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani called on MQM chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday and discuses national issues while reiterating support to strengthen democracy. The prime minister, who is in London on a private visit in connection with the treatment of his son Haider Gilani, visited the North London residence of the MQM leader.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Pakistan High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan, Gilani said he was taking all political parties along on all decisions regarding the county’s governance in the greater national interest and without any discrimination.
In the hour-long meeting, the prime minister acknowledged the MQM’s support at the Centre and said he was thankful to the party in this regard which had gone a long way in the consolidation of democracy in the country. Gilani called for respecting the mandate of the political parties.
He also praised MQM’s endeavours in expanding into other provinces and wished the party success in today’s (Sunday) public rally in Lahore. Altaf praised the prime minister’s political sagacity and the government’s policy of consensus politics.
