Firdous expresses govt’s resolve to empower women

SIALKOT – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday said the government was taking effective steps for the women development and economic empowerment.
Addressing a gathering of women at Bahadurpur near Head Marala, she said they should work shoulder to shoulder with men as any progress without their involvement in national mainstream was impossible. The government, in line with the mission of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto vision, was striving hard to empower women and get them their rightful status in the society, Firdous added, as she promised to provide training in different skills.
She said Benazir Bhutto had struggled for women’s rights. She said the Pakistani women had the capability and courage to bring revolutionary changes in the society and fight global challenges. Firdous said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani were making strenuous efforts for resolving the problems and difficulties being confronted by the masses and steer the country out of crises.
She expressed the hope that the country would be converted into a modern and democratic country with the support of masses. She said the PPP-led government was making all out efforts for strengthening the democratic institutions.
Later, she distributed an amount of Rs 6.6 million in cheques, sewing machines and ration among the affected families of the village.
