KARACHI – The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to the director generals of the Military Intelligence (MI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), provincial Home secretary, police chief, Crime Investigation Department (CID) in charge, Station House Officer (SHO) and DIG Investigation of a Steel Town police station, in a case pertaining to the disappearance of a student from Karachi.
The SHC division bench comprising Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi also ordered the Sindh Advocate General and the Deputy Attorney General to file their comments within one week.
Petitioner Nafeed Ahmed Qidwani, through his counsel Muhammad Javaid, had approached the court to seek whereabouts of his son Azeeb, who has been missing since April 2.
The petitioner had submitted that Azib, an electrical engineering student at Usman Institute of Technology of Hamdard University, went to a mosque to offer his Fajr prayer, when some unidentified armed persons arrived in a Datsun vehicle and forcibly took him away.
The counsel stated that the petitioner lodged a report with the concerned Steel Town police station vide Roznamcha Entry No 29 on the same day and has been visiting the police station and other offices of the law enforcement agencies since then but the whereabouts of the abducted man were yet to be traced.
Javaid alleged that the petitioner’s son was unlawfully taken into custody by law enforcement agencies despite the fact that he had no affiliation with any political or religious party in violation of Article 9 of the constitution.
Citing the Sindh Home Secretary, director generals of MI, IB, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), provincial police chief, CID chief, DIG Investigation and Quaidabad SHO as respondents, the plaintiff prayed the court that the respondents be ordered to produce the missing person and restrained from falsely implicating him in any case of terrorism.
