Over 60 killed in Mohmand operation

PESHAWAR – The authorities have claimed killing more than 60 militants so far as the security forces continued operation in Tehsil Baezai of Mohmand agency on second consecutive day Friday. The security forces backed by gunship helicopters and artillery targeted the militants’ hideouts in different localities.
The local tribesmen say the military action is focused on Sooran Dara, Chamarkand, Sheikh, Shamsha and Meenai areas. The action had been launched after an attack on a check post during which four personnel of the security forces were killed while injuries to eight others. The Baezai area is located along the border with Afghanistan.
The militants sheltering in these border areas, particularly in Sooran Dara, occupy fortified positions. Although the officials have time and again claimed clearing the area of militants, they manage to slip into Afghanistan while proper security on the part of NATO and Afghan forces, these militants entering Pakistani territory again for terrorist acts.
Meanwhile, four militants were shot dead and two arrested in Ghundakai area of Orakzai Agency. According to an official account, they were killed during a retaliatory action after they attacked a check post. A non-commissioned officer was also wounded in the clash. On the other hand, SHO Kabuli Police Station Khan Raziq and a constable were injured with a constable when an improvised explosive devise (IED) went off at Rehman Baba Colony.
The IED weighing 500 grams was in a street to target the SHO.
