LAHORE – Pakistan People’s Party Secretary General Jahangir Badr has termed the start of politics by Muttehida Qaumi movement (MQM) in Punjab a good omen for the country.
Talking to media after a meeting with MQM delegation at his residence here on Saturday, he said that MQM was working for the deprived and middle class which was in line with the vision of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of PPP.
He appreciated the MQM for its entry to Punjab and hoped it would benefit the poor. He said that all parties should join hands against poverty, adding it was the mission of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed to eradicate poverty from society by improving the social status of the deprived.
He hoped that MQM’s presence in Punjab would have deep and positive impact on politics.
To a question about an invitation by MQM to participate in the gathering here on Sunday, he said that PPP Co-chairman and President Asif Ali Zardari would decide the matter.
Dr Farooq Sattar, MQM Deputy Convener, talking to the media said that he had invited PPP leaders to the meeting. He said that people of Punjab had warmly welcomed the MQM here and it would be a positive addition to politics of the province. He stressed on politics for the poor and deprived
people and said that they should be included in the political and democratic process.
He hoped that all political parties would respect the free media as its role in the political process was very powerful. He hoped that people of Punjab would not disappoint the MQM and assured them that MQM chief Altaf Hussain would also never disappoint them.
To a question about difficulties in arrangements for the gathering, he said the MQM was in contact with the administration and it would discuss with it in case of any difficulty.
Earlier, the MQM delegation headed by Dr Farooq Sattar, Deputy Convener, called on Jahangir Badr, PPP Secretary General at his residence. The MQM delegation was warmly welcomed by PPP workers. Jahangir Badr served the delegation with traditional breakfast of the city.
