LAHORE – Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry told the Punjab chief secretary on Friday to submit a report within 15 days about who was responsible for the deaths of several patients during the 37-day doctors’ strike.
The CJ questioned why the “ineligible” Health Secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad was not transferred. The CJ told Fawad that if he could not run the affairs, he should quit. The CJ also clarified that the matter was worth taking suo motu notice of, but the LHC did not do so because the matter was pending in the Supreme Court.
Chief Secretary Nasir Saeed Khosa said that the government was ready to meet the demands of the protesting doctors but it would take some time. He said Rs 26 billion was required to increase the salaries of the protesting doctors. He also said that emergency rooms in hospitals were not closed.
The chief secretary said that the matter was not left solely to the health secretary, but a special committee was appointed that dealt with the matter every day.
