HEC’s resource person course concludes

LAHORE – The English Language Teaching Reforms (ELTR) Phase-II of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), in collaboration with the British Council, concluded a two-week international resource person course on research methodology at the HEC Lahore Regional Centre on Friday.
Tony Capstick, English language advisor of the British Council conducted the course as an international resource person. He designed a well-balanced scheme of studies for the course particularly keeping in view the modern trends in the area of research. After an IRP training on TESOL, another landmark of the ELTR Project is to provide all-out exposure to the college faculty.
Around 12 faculty members of various colleges and universities attended the course. One faculty member was from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one from Sindh while the rest of them were from Punjab. Most of them are pursuing higher studies in various universities and are enrolled in MPhil and PhD programmes.
The ELTR Project is catering to the teaching faculty across Pakistan and now it has taken steps to train the teaching faculty of colleges exclusively to ensure the quality of the teaching process not only at the university but the college level as well. The ELTR Project is facilitating English language teaching community in the best possible way. Around 150 scholarships are available for English language teaching faculty under ELTR to pursue higher studies.
University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore IBBT Director Dr Masroor Elahi Babar attended the closing ceremony as chief guest. He appreciated the efforts of HEC in promoting research culture in Pakistan, which is no doubt a way towards educational advancement. He also distributed certificates among the participants of the course.
The research methodology course aimed to disseminate the latest trends and strategies in research. The course mainly focused on the modern techniques of quality research in English language and literature. Research is like a backbone in the process of educational development and serves the purpose to create and implement new strategies and techniques in education.
The course content included major research paradigms, data analysis, selecting research topic, formulating and designing hypothesis, writing research proposal, plagiarism, writing ethics, language of research, qualitative research, quantitative research, literature review, ethical considerations, data collection tools, statistics in research, anthropology and case studies.
Ground breaking techniques were used to impart new concepts regarding research by a resource person.
Presentations were taken at the end of the course from the participants. The participants applauded the efforts of the HEC. They said that the course will be really helpful for their professional growth and also help them in research work and completion of higher degrees.
