LAHORE – Aqeel Khan, Jalil Khan, Sara Mansoor, and Ushna Sohail have reached the finals of the 2nd Atlas Honda Cup Tennis Championship here at the K-21 Club on Friday. Aqeel Khan, the top seed of the tournament, beat his younger brother and third seed Yasir Khan 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-final.
Aqeel broke Yasir’s serves on several occasions. Yasir could not reply to the fast and furious serves by Aqeel. In the second semi-final, the second seed Yasir Khan remained totally focused in playing flawless tennis to beat Shehzad Khan in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
In women’s singles, Sara Mahboob lost her match to Ushna Sohail. The match took two and half hours to reach the final stage. Both players played excellent tennis and most of the time preferred to stick at the baseline, which resulted in long rallies. In the second set, Sara succeeded to break her opponent’s serve a couple of times, which really upset Ushna.
Sara won the second set 6-1, but at this stage, Ushna recollected her energy and started to hold her serve. As the score reached 4-all, Sara lost her serve after a couple of deuces and Ushna held her tenth and final game of the match. In the second semi-final, Sara Mansoor won her match against Saba Aziz in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Sara Mansoor will meet Ushna Sohail in women’s singles final today at 10.30am.
In the U14 boys’ singles final, Mohammad Muddasir beat Zaid Mujahid 6-1,6-1. In men’s doubles semi-final, Shehzad Khan and Yasir Khan beat Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 in a super tie-break.
