ISLAMABAD – The parliamentary committee (PC) on judges’ appointment on Thursday deferred discussing the Supreme Court (SC) verdict that annulled the PC’s rejection of appointments of additional judges in the Sindh and Lahore High Courts.
The PC met under the leadership of Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhari at the Parliament House, deciding that the committee would wait for the Supreme Court verdict on a review petition filed by the federation against its earlier decision.
The committee decided that as the federation had filed a review petition with respect to the SC decision, therefore, the matter would be referred to parliament after a detailed decision on the review petition is passed. The meeting was attended by Senator Ishaq Dar, Sabir Ali Baloch, Sardar Mehtab Khan, Aftab Shuban Mirani, Aasma Arbab Alamgir and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Bokhari said the parliamentary committee on judges appointment had reviewed the SC decision and would convene its next meeting once the review petition filed by the federation was decided by the court.
