Pakistan-India friendship seminar held

LAHORE – A seminar titled ‘Pak-India friendship’ was held on Thursday which was attended by representatives of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan People’s Party-Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB), Pak-India People’s Forum and other activists.
The function was presided over by Shaukat Ali Chaudhry from the Awami Inquilabi Ittehad, which also organised the event. Asif A Sheikh, convener of the four party alliance, said that it was a good sign for the premiers of both countries to be sitting together and talking casually during the Pakistan-India World Cup semifinal. He said that this was a sign that they had begun peace talks at a higher level and hoped that these talks will be successful.
Sheikh said that whenever relations have been reaching normalcy, something or the other happens which threatens them. Both countries, he said have the same problem of poverty, as several people on both sides of the border live below the poverty line, with nowhere to sleep except on pavements.
South Asia should unite, he said, stressing that if this was done, several problems will be dealt with in a better way and both the nations will benefit from this arrangement.
